Amir Bogen

My name is Amir Bogen and I'm an American-Israeli film journalist, based in Brooklyn.
For over 20 years, I've worked as a journalist for Ynet (Israel's biggest news website) as a writer, editor, researcher and film critic. Since moving to New York, I've been covering the news, politics, sports and mostly culture in the US.
As Ynet's senior film and TV writer, I've covered Hollywood and the American film industry scene, as well as international cinema. I wrote countless reviews and in-depth feature stories, and interviewed numerous filmmakers and movie stars, and attended the biggest film festivals in the world from Cannes and Berlin to Toronto, Tribeca, NYFF and SXSW.
I also have an MA in film theory from Tel Aviv University (My thesis focused on the socio-political layers of big Hollywood sci-fi and superheroes blockbusters, mainly Star Wars).

During my career in journalism, I gained a lot of experience and developed excellent skills both as a reporter, magazine writer, and editor. I have a proven sensitive nose for good stories. I see myself as a talented confident writer with a unique style that combines humor, sophistication, and in-depth analysis of a subject matter. I'm always looking for a fresh angle, to creatively approach complex subjects without compromising on the giving providing verified facts and accurate information to support the reported narratives.

I work well with PR, but won't rely only on their leads and materials. I prefer to chase my own stories. I think my readers are worthy of my efforts to offer them an original take they haven't read before, or even thought about previously. I want them to expect the unexpected from my pieces, reviews, and interviews.

Even after so many years of working as a journalist, I still have this passion and hunger for story-telling. This childish desire for news and the original accurate ways to report about them. As a scholar, I have the theoretical knowledge and the expertise to process the facs. As a professional film journalist, I combine it all in my investigative work, writing style, awareness and critical thinking.
