I. Introduction Lien is a common law right to retain possession of another’s goods until a debt is paid. Some liens are statutory like an unpaid seller’s lien under the Sale of Goods Act, 1930, or a vendor’s lien under the Transfer of Property Act, 1882 (‘TPA’). They come into force owing to the operation of a statute. Whereas some liens are possessory like general lien of bankers, attorneys, factors, etc. under the Indian Contract Act, 1872 (‘ICA’).

Swiggy, Uber, Ola and Zomato are some of the major livelihood providers to gig workers in India. These gig workers are not employees but rather independent contractors legally allowed to make autonomous decisions. Unlike in other employment relationships, where human resources or others in charge manage the workers, gig workers working for such platforms are managed through algorithms used to match the demand and supply of delivery services.

However, live-cell imaging often requires balancing temporal resolution with cell viability (i.e. conditions enabling cells to thrive) because of photo-toxicity.
