Abstract Microbiomes are constrained by physicochemical conditions, nutrient regimes, and community interactions across diverse environments, yet genomic signatures of this adaptation remain unclear. Metagenome sequencing is a powerful technique to analyze genomic content in the context of natural environments, establishing concepts of microbial ecological trends.

Abstract Oligonucleotide-conjugated antibodies have allowed for joint measurement of surface protein abundance and the transcriptome in single cells using high-throughput sequencing. Extending these measurements to gene regulatory proteins in the nucleus would provide a powerful means to link changes in abundance of trans-acting TFs to changes in activity of cis-acting elements and expression of target genes.

Introduction Polymeric Optical Fibres (POF) have been used in textiles to enhance fabrics with smart properties. As a material for smart textiles, POF has a number of advantages. It is immune to electromagnetic interference and it is relatively low cost (Schwarz-Pfeiffer, Mecnika, Beckers, Gries, & Jockenhoevel, 2015). Since POF is lightweight, flexible and in a fibre form, it is a good candidate for textiles integration.
