NAD depletion in skeletal muscle does not compromise muscle function or accelerate aging
Main text (Cell Metabolism , 1460–1481.e1–e17; July 1, 2025) In the original publication of this paper, Dr. Christian Ludwig, who provided essential laboratory and interpretive work (i.e., acquisition of NMR spectra, advice on and supervision of NMR data processing and peak annotation, and software development for optimization of quantitative data analysis), was not included in the original list of authors. All co-authors have approved this addition.
Insulin- and exercise-induced phosphoproteomics of human skeletal muscle identify REPS1 as a regulator of muscle glucose uptake

Hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp trial Subjects arrived at the laboratory in a fasting state for assessment of insulin-stimulated whole-body glucose disposal during a hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp. They refrained from vigorous physical activity and alcohol for 48 h and caffeine and nicotine for 24 h.

Keywords NAD metabolism NAMPT skeletal muscle aging exercise mitochondrial supercomplexes epigenetic clock nicotinamide NAD+ biosynthesis reactive oxygen species Introduction Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD: NAD+ and NADH) is a cofactor that plays a central role in energy metabolism. NAD+ facilitates substrate oxidation, capturing reductive potential that is subsequently transferred to the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC).

Housing Temperature Impacts the Systemic and Tissue‐Specific Molecular Responses to Cancer in Mice
1 Introduction Cancer cachexia (CC) is a metabolic condition affecting up to 80% of patients with cancer [1], mediated by reduced skeletal muscle (SkM) and fat mass and impaired function [2]. It dramatically compromises the quality of life, increases treatment toxicity and lowers survival rate.
Housing temperature dictates the systemic and tissue specific molecular responses to cancer in mice
Abstract Cancer cachexia is a metabolic condition affecting up to 80% of patients with cancer. Cachexia is mediated by reduced muscle and fat mass and impaired function, and it lowers survival for patients. With no approved drugs to treat cachexia, preclinical efforts focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying this condition to reveal treatment targets.
Ehrlich: 'I have roots here now. I’m a Vermonter'
On a snowy night in January, more than 80 people turned up at the Old Labor Hall in Barre for a party put on by Ghazi Jendoubi and his partner, Sarah Lipton. There were speeches and applause, balloons and streamers and red tablecloths, and pans and pans of delicious North African food — more than anyone could eat. For those who came, it was a party to celebrate Ghazi being granted asylum after three years as an asylum seeker in Vermont.
Seasonal light hours modulate peripheral clocks and energy metabolism in mice
Highlights • Seasonal light impacts energy metabolism by modulating the timing of eating • Photoperiod affects the rhythmicity of fasting-associated metabolites • Photoperiod alters the phase of core clock transcripts in peripheral tissues • These effects are largely independent of a functioning melatonergic system Summary Except for latitudes close to the equator, seasonal variation in light hours can change dramatically between summer and winter.
The Older Adult's Guide to Cold Weather
Cold weather brings special risks for older adults. In the Division of Geriatrics at Montefiore Health System in the Bronx, New York, our team works to educate our patients and their families and caregivers about keeping safe in the cold weather. The most frequent winter injuries we see are due to patients slipping and falling. Nationwide, the data show that the risk of hip fractures rises significantly in the winter because of falls on ice and snow.
How Older Adults Can Stay Stafe During the Summer Months
Mrs. K. came to see me in the Geriatrics Ambulatory Practice at Montefiore on the third day of a major heat wave. She was scheduled for a routine follow-up visit for her multiple medical problems. Mrs. K is 95 years old and has mild dementia, diabetes, congestive heart failure and mild kidney disease. She takes eight different medications, including a "water pill" or diuretic for her heart disease. Mrs. K was born in South Carolina and moved to New York when she was 20 years old.
Think Twice About Nutritional Supplement Drinks for Elderly Loved Ones
“My elderly mother refuses to eat and she has lost a lot of weight. Should I give her a nutritional supplement drink to replace the meals she should be eating?” Questions like this one abound in the Caregiver Forum and for good reason. Undernutrition due to lack of eating is a common and dangerous problem among seniors.
