Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have indeed. Learned to type on an old Smith-Corona electric in high school.
How is social media changing news?
Not for the better. Its enabled anyone anywhere to post whatever they want, without any fact-checking or editorial judgment. Not good.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Murphy Brown. She was neurotic and a little eccentric, but a great journalist.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Dedication to good, ethical coverage of whatever story one is given. Checking facts and making sure the writing is precise and objective.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I'm a PC person. I use a desktop PC (looking for a laptop), with Windows 11 and Microsoft Office, plus WordPress and the company CMS.
What's your favorite social network?
I use Facebook. I don't know that I have a favorite, but Facebook is the one I use the most.
Who do you wish followed you?
Oh, I don't know. Paul McCartney, maybe? That would be pretty incredible.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love to write and do research. I want to tell stories people want to read, and be a part of making sure they're factual and well-written.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
My high school was pretty small. At that time, we didn't have a newspaper, so no, I didn't write for it.
What's your favorite drink?
Coke Zero Sugar or fresh pressed apple cider.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Watching a classic movie.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I like The Atlantic. The stories are usually incisive and very well written and researched.
