Amy Webb’s Biography
I contribute regularly to a number of publications, and most often at Slate, where I focus on big data and our everyday lives.
I hold an M.S. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and previously worked at Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal, where I covered emerging technology trends, culture and media. I was based in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
In 2013, my book about the world of online dating, consumer behavior and finding love via algorithms was published by Penguin. The book, "Data, A Love Story: How I Cracked The Online Dating Code To Meet My Match" was a bestseller and featured on Good Morning America, 20/20, The View, NPR, CNN, People Magazine, Time, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Wired, Elle, Slate, Huffington Post, Grazia, ReadWrite, Mashable and many others. Data has since been translated into several languages and has garnered a worldwide audience.
I hold many professional affiliations and collaborate with a number of institutions. I'm a Delegate on the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission and have been a Lecturer at the Columbia University Sulzberger Program at the Graduate School of Journalism since it began in 2007. I'm a member of the Aspen Institute Dialogue on Libraries, a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Interactive Media Peer Group), and I've served as a Blue Ribbon panel judge for the Emmy awards. I am a current member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra board of directors, a former member of the Board of Directors for the Online News Association and serves on a number of advisory boards, including the SXSW Accelerator, Temple University’s School of Media and Communication and the International Center for Journalists. I'm an advisor to several startups.
A founded Webbmedia Group, a digital strategy agency, and co-founded Spark Camp, a next-generation think tank.
