Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Stringing for the Economist and NYT while living in Asia. First real gig: WSJ.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

My mother forced me to take a keyboarding class in high school.

How is social media changing news?

It's making it faster, disintermediated, and in some cases less reliable.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Ben Franklin's alter ego(s).

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Because I'm so focused on emerging trends in technology and data, I tend to use a lot of prototypes.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. Sometimes Snapchat. Never Secret.
