1 Introduction When a surface comes into contact with a biological fluid containing microorganisms, a biofilm begins to form, initiating a series of events. The first step involves the adsorption of proteins, polysaccharides, and various molecules, creating a conditioning film. Bacteria then use this conditioning film as a platform to adhere and begin biofilm development.

1 Introduction A biofilm forms upon the contact of a surface with a biological fluid, initiating a sequence of events. Oral biofilms consist, to a large extent, of proteins, carbohydrates, and other macromolecules.[1-3] As a first step, proteins, sugars, and assorted molecules undergo adsorption, forming a conditioning film. Subsequently, bacteria exploit this film to adhere and initiate biofilm formation.
