Using AI to determine optimal cost-effective diagnostic pathways for chronic breathlessness
Abstract Breathlessness is a common symptom in clinical practice, yet evidence for cost-effective strategies to diagnose the underlying health conditions causing breathlessness remains limited. Using Swedish population data with individuals with moderate to severe breathlessness, we developed an artificial intelligence (AI) reinforcement learning model to identify optimal, low-cost diagnostic pathways for breathlessness tailored to subgroups based on sex and smoking exposure.

Visst – viktigt. Men viktigast?

Long-term Physical Capacity Following COVID-19: A Prospective, Three-Year Study
Keywords Physical capacity COVID-19 Breathlessness Diffusing capacity of the lung Introduction COVID-19 is a respiratory infection with a disease presentation ranging from asymptomatic to severe, yet most infections present as mild and do not require hospitalisation.1 While there is substantial evidence on long-term lung function and physical capacity outcomes in patients who experienced moderate to severe COVID-19 infection, research on individuals with mild infection remains limited.

Factors most strongly associated with breathlessness in a population aged 50-64 years
Introduction Breathlessness is defined as the experience of breathing discomfort [1] and is a public health issue of concern, as 10–25% of the middle-aged and older general population experience, and are limited by, that symptom in their daily life [2, 3]. The symptom is associated with increased mortality [4], often compromising the affected individual's daily life activities [5] and quality of life [6].

Modifiable lifestyle risk factors for sarcoidosis: a nested case-control study
Statistical analysis Characteristics of sarcoidosis cases and controls were reported as means with standard deviations, as medians with ranges or as proportions. The odds ratios (OR) of sarcoidosis associated with each lifestyle factor were estimated using conditional logistic regression models adjusted for educational level, BMI (continuous), smoking status, snus status, alcohol consumption and physical activity.

A common model for the breathlessness experience across cardiorespiratory disease

Yet, despite being strongly linked to adverse outcomes, the consideration of chronic breathlessness as a stand-alone therapeutic target remains limited.
