Nearly 1,200 women in Bexar County are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and more than 200 of them will die from the disease. And it's worse for some. African American women have higher death rates compared to other ethnicities, while Latinas in medically underserved areas have a higher risk for late-stage breast cancer and death. Susan G. Komen San Antonio is working to make the load lighter so that fewer women add to those statistics.

The Southwest School of Art's Fiesta Arts Fair, one of the most family-friendly Fiesta events that support nonprofits, promises to live up to its billing when it welcomes visitors April 20 and 21. The school has curated more than 100 artists locally and nationwide, said Debra Del Toro, Southwest School of Art's director of communications. The fair will also feature live music on two stages, artists' demonstrations, children's activities, and Fiesta food and drink.

The Autism Treatment Center, which has been serving San Antonio for nearly 40 years, has experienced exponential growth over the past decade. That is primarily because of the increased demand for services as parents become more educated and seek solutions for their children, said Cynthia Hamilton, the center's development director. "We have more San Antonio-area families needing our services each year," she said.
