Valencia E-Prix: BMW Andretti's Dennis storms to pole by 0.86s
The championship newcomer scored his first single-seater pole since an October 2015 run to the front row of the European Formula 3 grid at Hockenheim thanks to his 1m28.548s effort. Fastest in all three sectors at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, having also topped the group stages, Dennis claimed top spot by 0.863s ahead of Porsche driver Andre Lotterer in the superpole contest.
Di Grassi leads Lotterer in Thursday practice
The 2017-18 champion botched his qualifying lap for the first E-Prix at the Tempelhof Airport to line up only 20th but recovered to eighth after a late crash with the DS Techeetah of Jean-Eric Vergne. His late 250kW full power practice run aboard the E-tron FE06 propelled him to the top of the times on a 1m06.732s, which left him fractionally clear of Andre Lotterer by 0.009s.
Berlin E-Prix: Da Costa takes dominant pole from Vergne
The points leader set the fastest time of the day with a 1m06.799s to pull a clear 0.322s margin over Vergne, who still snared his best qualifying result of the season in second. Despite missing the Turn 1 apex, da Costa recovered 0.02s in the opening sector and then close to a further two tenths in the second split in a session where his title rivals faltered.
Berlin E-Prix: Da Costa dominates frantic race on FE return
Da Costa sealed back-to-back series wins with a 5.5-second advantage over late beneficiary Andre Lotterer, despite crossing the line with marginal useable energy remaining. A fine start for both DS Techeetah machines left them unchallenged into Turn 1 as a superb launch from Sebastien Buemi forced Lotterer to defend with his Porsche. That gave da Costa and Vergne clear breathing space of 2s at the end of the opening lap in an otherwise processional first phase of the race.
Marrakesh E-Prix: da Costa takes first pole of 2019/20
Da Costa was the sole driver to make superpole from the opening qualifying group, and went well clear as the third runner on the road in the pole shoot-out with a 1m17.158s. His benchmark was under serious threat from BMW's Maximilian Gunther and Porsche's Andre Lotterer, both lapping within a tenth of da Costa but ultimately coming up short as the Portuguese driver's pole was confirmed.
Mexico City E-Prix: Lotterer scores Porsche's first pole
Andre Lotterer scored Porsche's first-ever FIA Formula E pole position in Mexico City E-Prix on Saturday, beating Jaguar's Mitch Evans to the top spot by 0.063s.
Diriyah E-Prix: Bird wins, podiums for Porsche and Mercedes
Bird used an aggressive attack mode strategy to climb from fifth on the grid to score a ninth career FE win five years to the day since he scored his first category win at the 2014 Putrajaya E-Prix. At the start, polesitter Alexander Sims easily held the lead off the line ahead of Mercedes pair Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries, as Bird harried Venturi Racing’s Edoardo Mortara for fourth in the early stages.
Swiss E-Prix: Wehrlein outpaces DS Techeetah duo in practice
Under cloudy skies in the de facto capital of Switzerland, the field got to grips with the new 1.7-mile rapid and narrow track, which was described as "akin to Oulton Park and Macau and Pau" by Audi’s Lucas di Grassi ahead of the event. The tight left of Turn 1, which sits opposite the pitlane, was a particular problem for the drivers, with many locking up there during the 45-minute FP1.
Paris E-Prix: Frijns wins shunt-packed race despite damage
Oliver Rowland led Nissan teammate Sebastien Buemi after the safety car start until he locked up and crashed into the barrier at Turn 10. Buemi inherited the lead until his car slowed with a puncture, to complete Nissan’s misery, allowing Frijns to lead from Andre Lotterer and Daniel Abt as a rain shower livened up the race. Frijns was battling against broken front bodywork, that he broke against the rear of Buemi’s car earlier.
Shanghai WEC: Rebellion takes 1-2 in third practice
After both of Friday's practice sessions were held in damp conditions, teams were able to get their first dry running of the weekend during Saturday morning's one-hour session. Bruno Senna took an early lead in the #1 Rebellion R-13-Gibson with a 1m45.137s lap, which stood as the best time in the session - a mere 0.019s ahead of the sister #3 Rebellion of Thomas Laurent. Zurich ePrix: Evans gives Jaguar maiden pole, Vergne 17th
Sam Bird qualified third, while his title rival and current championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne qualified down in 17th. It is Vergne's worst grid position so far in the 2017/18 season. Evans - second in both of Sunday's practice sessions and third overall – topped the group phase of qualifying. Running last in superpole, he attacked the 2.465kms Zurich Street Circuit – taking a wider line than his rivals heading over the bumps approaching the fast right of Turn 1.
Paris ePrix: Vergne stretches points lead with pole
Vergne and DS Virgin driver Bird made it through to Super Pole running despite having to run in the first group qualifying phase. Bird held provisional pole following a smooth effort around the Circuit des Invalides on his Super Pole effort, but Vergne surged ahead in all three sectors during his own final flying lap. The French driver ended up 0.277s clear at the top of the times as he claimed his fourth pole of the 2017/18 campaign.
Santiago ePrix: Vergne beats Lotterer in tense finish
In an action-packed encounter, Sebastien Buemi grabbed third for Renault e.dams, but once again defending champion Lucas di Grassi was out of luck, retiring with yet another technical issue in his Audi. Fourth place for Felix Rosenqvist and fifth for Sam Bird (plus the fastest lap bonus point) kept their championship challenge on track. Vergne led away from pole position, but was under pressure into the first turn from Nelson Piquet Jr, who made a stunning getaway from fifth on the grid.
Bahrain WEC: Porsche secures pole for final LMP1 race
The drivers of the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid beat the best of the Toyotas to the top of the timesheets by nearly three tenths of a second. Tandy had trailed Mike Conway in the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid by more than a second in the first runs after making a mistake on his lap. Jani then posted the fastest time of the session with a 1m39.084s, which prompted Porsche to send Tandy back out for a second run. The Briton improved to a 1m39.683s, which gave the #1 Porsche an average of 1m39.383s.
Austin WEC: Toyota hits back to lead third practice
Sebastien Buemi went fastest in the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid during the one-hour Friday practice period with a 1m45.712s set during a qualification simulation. That put Toyota a tenth up on the best Porsche time of the weekend so far posted by Neel Jani when the German manufacturer undertook its practice qualifying runs during FP2 on Thursday. Porsche took second and third positions in the times during final practice.
Austin WEC: Tandy grabs last-gasp pole for #1 Porsche despite scare
Jani had been fastest after the first runs on a 1m44.656s aboard the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid, but Tandy had his almost identical time of 1m44.659s deleted for a track limits violation. He subsequently had to pit for fuel and was sent out on the tyres that Jani had used, posting a 1m44.827s after the chequered flag had fallen. That gave them a 1m44.741s average, which was more than two tenths clear of championship-leading teammates Timo Bernhard and Earl Bamber.
Kobayashi smashes lap record in second qualifying
The Japanese driver’s 3m14.791s flyer came on his first lap out of the pits after a red flag period, helped by the ex-Formula 1 star encountering zero traffic. It puts the #7 TS050 Hybrid he shares with Mike Conway and Stephane Sarrazin on provisional pole by a full 2.468s from the #1 Porsche, and was 2.096s up on the 2015 lap record of Neel Jani on the current configuration of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Porsche heads Toyota in practice
It had looked like Toyota would continue to set the pace after dominating the pre-event test day, but Jani’s 3m20.362s in the dying moments of practice provided a boost to Porsche ahead of qualifying. The #1 919 Hybrid finished up 0.604s faster than Kamui Kobayashi in the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid. The Japanese driver only joined the fray with 45 minutes of the four-hour long session to go and was instantly on the pace, setting a 3m20.996s lap to put the #7 TS050 Hybrid car fastest.
Autosport's Top 50 Drivers of 2016
Prototype Challenge, Daytona 24 Hours "Unfortunately I didn’t race because our car had too much damage before I had to jump in, so it was a weird experience, but it was a special car to drive. There were a lot of crashes in that category, especially among the amateur drivers, but it was cool to be there and I hope I can do it again." Indy Lights "That was going to be the main programme this year. It was a bit up and down. I had some really tough weekends and some really good weekends.
Bahrain WEC: Audi signs off with victory, Porsche takes title
On an emotional day for the Audi Sport Team Joest squad, its pair of R18 e-tron quattros were clearly the class of the field, with the #8 car of Lucas di Grassi, Loic Duval and Oliver Jarvis bringing home the Ingolstadt marque its 17th and final WEC win. The polesitting car was passed in the second hour by the sister #7 car of Andre Lotterer, but a slow changeover to Benoit Treluyer at the third stops handed back the advantage to the #8 trio.
Fuji WEC: Webber puts Porsche on top in second practice
The session got off to a dramatic start as a spin for the #7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Andre Lotterer brought out the red flags almost immediately, as the German hit the barriers and lost a large chunk of his front-left bodywork in the process. Proceedings resumed some 10 minutes later, with Webber wasting little time in hitting the tarmac and setting what would prove to be the day's benchmark time, a 1m24.074, in the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid.
Austin WEC: Audi locks out front row for 6 Hours of COTA
After topping all the practice sessions, the #8 R18 – qualified by Lucas di Grassi and Oliver Jarvis – had to settle for second behind the pole-winning #7 car of Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer. Despite losing Fassler’s quickest lap due to exceeding its energy limit, Lotterer produced a stunning 1m45.7s effort to give the car an average laptime of 1m45.842s – 0.141s quicker than the #8.
