Judge denies ex-Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s request for early prison release
An Indiana federal judge denied disgraced ex-Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s request for early release from prison Friday. Fogle, who is serving more than 15 years in prison for conspiring to receive child pornography, filed the motion for his early release in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis on Jan. 11. “Fogle again challenges the Court’s subject matter jurisdiction over him and requests immediate release from detention,” Walton Pratt wrote in a court document.
What Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards Learned From Her Mom About Staying in the Battle
Friday night brought a crowd of boldface-named New Yorkers to the second anniversary party for Lena Dunham’s and Jenni Konner’s Lenny Letter, a feminist-slanted newsletter that has provided a home for everything from Dunham’s personal essays to interviews with Hillary Clinton and Zadie Smith and features on politics and culture.
Katy Perry Got Extremely Personal About Her Famous Exes
On June 9, Katy Perry released her newest album, Witness. Alongside its debut came something else: a weekend-long livestream of extremely personal revelations. This followed along with the continued Katy Perry album promotion tactic of making the personal public. She has not been quiet about her well-known feud with Taylor Swift, nor has she been silent about her breakup earlier this year from Orlando Bloom.
Katy Perry and the Perils of Being a Pop Star in 2017
At the beginning of the decade, Katy Perry was essentially invincible. The musician’s 2010 album Teenage Dream produced five inescapable No. 1 singles (a feat that had only previously been achieved by Michael Jackson’s Bad). Her image was easy to parse: everything was bright and candy-coated and syrupy. The songs were effervescent, and the wigs were neon. Perry is still, seven years later, one of the most famous pop stars on the planet.
Why Was Katy Perry’s Beef with Taylor Swift the Centerpiece of Her Carpool Karaoke?
On Monday night, as promised, James Corden delivered a new Carpool Karaoke primetime special starring Katy Perry. Fresh off the release of her song “Swish, Swish,” Perry has been at the center of renewed fascination regarding her relationship—or, more specifically, her long-running beef—with Taylor Swift.
Katy Perry Keeps the Taylor Swift Rumors Alive in Her New Single
Thursday night, Katy Perry dropped new song “Swish Swish,” off her impending June 9 album Witness, and fans are listening even harder than usual. The song features Nicki Minaj as well as a particular line that, depending on whom you ask, may or may not refer to Perry’s years-long feud with Taylor Swift. But even if it is the Swift response her fans have been craving, Perry’s new lyrics prove that she’s holding fast to her well-polished tactic of saying something without really saying anything.
Miley Cyrus Says Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” Is About . . . Her?!
Perry and Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2008. Miley Cyrus is promoting her (delightful) new single, “Malibu,” which means, after a few years of relative quiet, Cyrus is returning to the scene, making appearances and doing press and otherwise getting herself out there. She performed the single live for the first time this past weekend, at the Wango Tango concert in Los Angeles, where she met up with fellow performer Katy Perry, a pop star also making her return to the limelight.
Why in the World Is Katy Perry Judging American Idol?
American Idol, the singing competition about to launch its 16th season on a new network, has announced that Katy Perry will be on its judging panel when the series returns on ABC next winter. The news was revealed at ABC’s upfront presentation Tuesday afternoon, just hours after Perry all but broke it herself during an Ellen appearance. American Idol certainly needs Perry.
Katy Perry Pretends to Plead the Fifth on Taylor Swift Feud Questions
Left, by Donato Sardella; Right, from Light Brigade/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images, both from Getty Images. Please do not ask Katy Perry about her feud with Taylor Swift. No really, she doesn’t want to talk about it. Unless . . . she’s actually talking about it anyway? This is what Tim Stack learned in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview, when he asked Perry about the rumors that Swift’s song “Bad Blood” is about her. Does Perry’s new album, her first since 1989 debuted in 2014, contain a response?
Allison Williams on Her Wicked *Get Out* Role: “I Have No Empathy for Her”
If you have not yet seen Jordan Peele’s Get Out, a scan of the nominees in the best villain category at this Sunday night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards might be somewhat confounding. There’s Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad (makes sense!), the Demogorgon from Stranger Things (seems about right!), and then, uh . . . Allison Williams?
Katy Perry Has the Official Verdict on Starbucks’s Unicorn Frappuccino
Starbucks debuted its unicorn Frappuccino on Wednesday, and while aesthetically pleasing and so on-trend for the Internet it’s almost passé, the drink’s taste didn’t sit well with some consumers. Katy Perry, she of many multi-colored hairstyles and a Technicolor shoe line tasted the Frappuccino rainbow—and unlike when she kissed a girl, she didn’t like it.
Katy Perry Finally Found Her Twin: Guy Fieri
Katy Perry used to be plagued by comparisons to Zooey Deschanel—or maybe it was the latter being plagued by the former. “It's a little bit annoying, to be totally blunt. The only similarity that we have is that we look a little bit alike. . . . I'm happy that she's famous enough now that she's not going out and being mistaken for me,“ Deschanel once said.
Girls Finale Postmortem: Allison Williams Thinks Marnie Is Going to Be O.K.
Sunday night’s series finale of HBO’s Girls went in an unexpected direction, concluding the show on a quiet, contemplative note as it explored Hannah’s life with her newborn son (named Grover) in upstate New York. The only other regular characters appearing in the episode were Hannah’s best friend, Marnie (Allison Williams), and her mother, Loreen (Becky Ann Baker).
Girls: The Very Last Time We Saw Every Major Character
Not every TV series lets its audience know when they’re saying goodbye to certain beloved characters. They can’t all be the emotional group hug of The Mary Tyler Moore Show or the time-traveling check-in of Six Feet Under. Some shows with sprawling casts, like Mad Men, send characters off far in advance of a series finale. These exitst can happen swiftly and with little fanfare. Girls didn’t quite go that route.
Girls Bosses Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner Explain that Divisive Finale
Since its premiere in 2012, Girls has been a polarizing force to be reckoned with. How appropriate, then, that its finale has already proved to be as divisive as the rest of its run, an episode that left fans with far more questions than answers: Has Hannah finally grown up, even a little? Where will Marnie go? Will everyone be O.K.? In refusing to answer those questions, the series continued its proud commitment to a sort of messy realism.
Katy Perry Is Leaving Her “California Gurls” Era Behind
Katy Perry is embarking on a new era—one motivated more by politics and social issues and less by candy canes and penis puns. She’s still the bubbly California girl the world met in 2009, but don't expect to see her singing about it.
Ryan Phillippe Proves How Intense Katy Perry Dating Rumors Can Be
Anyone who buys the rumor that Ryan Phillippe and Katy Perry are Hollywood’s newest couple should look no further than Phillippe’s Twitter account, where he has noted, in no uncertain terms, that he is not dating Perry. “I AM NOT DATING KATY PERRY,” the actor tweeted on Sunday in all caps. “BARELY KNOW HER. PLEASE STOP FLYING HELICOPTERS OVER MY HOUSE. SHE IS NOT HERE.
It Makes Total Sense for Girls to Cut Half the Girls from the Finale
When Girls first premiered back in 2012, it was popular practice to compare it to another HBO property: Sex and the City, which went off the air eight years before its younger, rougher progeny would debut. But from the very beginning, Girls actually proved to have very little in common with its older, posher predecessor.
Allison Williams on Filming “Get Out,” Wrapping “Girls,” and Life as a Blonde
For Allison Williams, the spring of 2017 includes both a thrilling beginning and a bittersweet ending. Earlier this month, the actress made her feature-film debut in Get Out, Jordan Peele’s horror film which has earned critical acclaim, made box-office history, and inspired moviegoers to return to theaters for second and third viewings.
Katy Perry Says There’s More to “I Kissed a Girl” than Everyone Assumed
On Saturday night, Katy Perryreceived the National Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign Gala Dinner in Los Angeles. The singer, who in 2008 broke onto the scene with her chart-topping hit “I Kissed a Girl,” opened up about what a pivotal moment that song was for her while accepting her award. “I’m just a singer-songwriter, honestly. I speak my truths, and I paint my fantasies into these little bite-size pop songs,” she began. “For instance, I kissed a girl and I liked it.

Jonathan Lipnicki rose to fame as the adorable six-year-old who starred opposite Renée Zellweger and Tom Cruise in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire—but now the former child star is opening up about the bullying, panic attacks, anxiety, and depression he experienced following the film.
Lena Dunham Says Reaction to “Girls” Pregnancy Plotline Is an “Interesting Litmus Test”
The final season of Girls, now halfway through its run, has offered fans of the show a bit of a surprise, out-of-left-field twist. (If you aren’t caught up, stop reading here!) At the end of the fourth episode of the season, Hannah (played by Lena Dunham) goes to the E.R. with a U.T.I., and is told by a doctor (Patrick Wilson, reprising his memorable Season 2 appearance) that she is, in fact, pregnant. The father? Riz Ahmed’s surfer bro, who guest-starred in the first episode of the season.
RuPaul Married His Longtime Boyfriend
RuPaul Charles married his longtime boyfriend, Australian rancher Georges LeBar, in a secret ceremony in January. The RuPaul’s Drag Race host confirmed his nuptials in an interview Wednesday on Hollywood Today Live. “You know what? I don’t think I’ve said this,” he began. “I’ve never said this on television before. We are married. We are married, yes. This is scoop! I’ve never said it before.” In a 2013 special of “Oprah: Where Are They Now?,” RuPaul spoke about his relationship with LeBar.

The Guys of Girls Say Good-Bye
Sure, the show’s not called Guys—but the men of Girls, which returns on Sunday, will certainly be missed after HBO’s buzzy hit concludes its final season this year. While they’re technically not the protagonists of Lena Dunham’s show, which chronicles the ebbs and flows of female friendship among four twentysomethings, at least one of the guys believes he should be. Says Andrew Rannells, who plays Elijah Krantz: “I think that every scene he’s in, he thinks he’s the star of Girls.
How Jane the Virgin Pulled Off the Exact Move The Walking Dead Botched
This post contains spoilers for Monday’s installment of Jane the Virgin. The foreshadowing was there all along—but that didn’t make Jane the Virgin’s tragic, episode-capping twist any less devastating Monday night. Viewers have suspected for months that Michael Cordero, the ostensible love of Jane’s life, might not be long for this world.

Bill Hader Was Born to Play Someone Really Angry About Losing an Oscar
Listen, sweetheart—Tinseltown’s a tough business. Perhaps nobody understands that as well as Jerry Wallach, the old-school Hollywood super-producer known as much for his flamboyant persona as he is for his classic films. You know the roster: Robot Bachelor, White Love in Rhodesia, Spiro: Agnew, The Shitbox Sluggers. What, you haven't heard of Wallach? Right—that's probably because he's made up.

This weekend marked a very special occasion for Drake, who celebrated his 30th birthday with a party at Delilah’s in West Hollywood on Sunday night. But wait: there’s another twist.
