Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-1986) was a Soviet film director and writer, born in the small town of Zavraje near Moscow. He started his film career in the early sixties, releasing his first feature film Ivan’s Childhood in 1962. Over the span of his career, he directed seven feature films, including Solaris (1972), The Mirror (1975), Stalker (1979) and Nostalghia (1983).
