The City of Pleasanton has mailed a Proposition 218 notice proposing large, multi-year increases in the city’s sewer collection charge for single-family homes: • Current rate: $31.53 bi-monthly • January 1, 2027: $57.03 • Then further increases on each July 1 through FY 2030, to $62.74, $69.02, and $75.93 That more than doubles the city’s collection charge in a few years, with no cap after 2030. Treatment charges from DSRSD or Livermore are on top of this.
Abstract Background: Three convergent phenomena in biomedical research have lacked a unified mechanistic explanation: the dendritic cell dysfunction of aging, the immune evasion of cancer, and the tolerogenic bias of chronic infection. Each is characterized by failure of type 1 conventional dendritic cell (cDC1) instruction and loss of its bioactive IL-12p70 output. Hypothesis: We propose that these three phenomena share a single molecular cause: sustained silencing of IRF8 by a four-step chain.
You are already at the latest version Background: The dendritic cell initiates and directs antigen-specific immunity. Three Nobel Prizes frame the system it controls: Steinman (2011) recognized the dendritic cell as the conductor of adaptive immunity; Allison and Honjo (2018) recognized CTLA-4 and PD-1 as checkpoints restraining effector responses; Sakaguchi, Brunkow, and Ramsdell (2025) recognized that Foxp3-positive regulatory T cells maintain peripheral tolerance.
