It seems inevitable that when someone moves away from Richmond, they always come back home. Radio personality Melissa Chase spent the last 20 years on the local airwaves and in the community, becoming a household name. She left Richmond at the end of 2021 for a radio job in Houston but felt the pull of the city and returned last August to host WRIC’s new lifestyle show, “Showcase,” airing weekdays from 3 to 4 p.m. “The city has shifted quite a bit, but it still feels like home,” Chase says.

Described as “GWAR meets the B-52’s, raised by Buck Rogers,” Richmond’s League of Space Pirates is a band of interstellar scoundrels from the 25th century who fight against the tyranny of the evil mega-conglomerate Übercorp through electronic rock and theatrical showmanship.

If you need some live music while doing your grocery shopping, you’re in luck. Located on Idlewood Avenue in Oregon Hill, Mocha has quickly become a live music destination, offering free concerts full of Richmond artists from heavy metal acts to DJ sets. The series was started by Sal Alshami, the son of the store’s owner, as a way to showcase artists in the local music scene.
