The news is that the UK has finally made it to 91% Gigabit broadband availability, through the combination of the full fibre rollouts and Virgin Media O2 cable network coverage. We reported on hitting 90% back in February 2026 so that additional point of coverage has taken 5 months. The expectation is that future point increases are actually going to be slower.

Community Fibre highlights survey showing 1 in 10 are considering switching broadband to an alt-net

INCA commissioned research reveals that 1 in 10 people are considering switching to an alt-net such as Community Fibre. Community Fibre is available to more than 1 in 3 properties in the London region and has services that start at £19/m for a 100 Mbps symmetric full fibre broadband service. Current offers mean 1 Gbps starts at £20/m too, undercutting the traditional network operators.

Sky agrees acquisition of ITV Media & Entertainment to boost streaming

Sky and ITV both have streaming services in the form of NOW TV and ITVX but the agreement for Sky (Comcast) to acquire ITV is headlined as creating a streaming champion for the UK. The agreement means Sky will acquire ITV Media & Entertainment from ITV plc for £1.6 billion formed of £1.2 billion in cash, Love Productions and up to £0.2 billion in performance related earn-out. This is of course subject to the acquisition being approved.
