Jan. 29—When Karley Wells, the young principal of Clyde Elementary School, showed up to a school assembly earlier this month, she thought she'd be speaking about positivity. In reality, she was there to be honored by students and staff for an award she didn't know she'd won — the state's Principal of the Year for the Western Region. Wells' office is lined with books from her years as a teacher. It's a comfortable and inviting space, as cozy as any room made from cinderblock can be.
