By ANDREW SIMONSON | Sports Editor BALL GROUND, Ga. – After a decorated amateur and junior career to this point, Chase Kyes’ ascent in the world of golf continued with his first ticket to a major championship. The Spain Park alum and Birmingham native Kyes qualified for the 126th US Open by emerging from the final round of qualifying at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Georgia on Monday, June 8.

Sure strikes: 2026 All-County boys soccer team revealed

By ANDREW SIMONSON | Sports Editor It was a banner season for boys soccer in Shelby County, with many teams across the area reaching new heights. Not one, but two teams achieved state championship glory in Briarwood Christian and Westminster OM. They did so in different ways too, with the Lions walking the wire through a slew of overtime and shootout results and the Knights largely dominating Class 4A before a pair of tight tests in Huntsville.
