Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder characterized by repeated narrowing or closure of the airway during sleep.1 The severity of OSA is expressed in terms of the hourly number of events of full or partial airway closures for at least 10 seconds (apneas and hypopneas, respectively) as the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI).
