1 Introduction In environmental research, data often consist of bounded counts, such as the natural counts of different species or the number of species affected by natural or human-induced events (Paul and Saha 2007; Ryan 2007). Considerable attention has been given to the study of anthropogenic environmental changes, as these can influence both ecosystems (Yee et al. 2008) and economies (Sciandra et al. 2024).
