Diesel Supply Down 8%: What Trucking Faces Next
Diesel supply is down 8% worldwide — and that’s the number trucking needs to watch. Andy Lipow of Lipow Oil Associates breaks down how Russian refinery attacks, Strait of Hormuz risk and Middle East disruptions are squeezing diesel markets while crude stays relatively softer. If you move freight, buy fuel or manage transportation costs, this is the energy outlook that matters.

Why oil market rally will keep going for 6 to 12 months-commentary
In spite of agreeing to production cuts last November, crude oil prices, as recently as last week, were back to where they were prior to OPEC's ineffective "agreement." There are plenty of things that I dislike about today's oil markets but there are also plenty of things that make me like it in the next six to 12 months. The oil market was impatient waiting for world oil inventories to decline and had become besides itself in bearishness.
Oil's 'long liquidation' will keep dragging prices down
The result, crude oil stocks in the U.S. hit an all-time record high last week. (For the purist, if one adds back in the 32 million barrels of lease crude oil stocks, one can see that today's inventory levels are higher than those reported in October 1929). Higher prices also helped reduce the incentive to store oil on tankers.
Here comes $60 oil and the stocks set to make big gains
After bottoming near $26 per barrel in February, WTI oil prices have been improving in 2016, closing above $51 on Friday, the highest level since July 2015. With a new OPEC deciding to forego its geopolitical differences in the name of economic survival and a new U.S. President-elect with a decidedly pro-business, less regulatory bias cabinet, are we about to see a new and improved oil market in 2017? Any mention of a reduction in OPEC supply is met with some amount of market skepticism.
The Oil Market Is Stuck in a 'Groundhog Day' Trap | RealClearMarkets
Why Afghan Oil Will Never Get Out of Ground Zainab Calcuttawala, OP
The oil market is stuck in a 'Groundhog Day’ trap
While the recent rapid rise in crude oil prices has led some to forecast $60 oil, I think it is more like Déjà vu all over again. I think over the next several months the oil market will act more like the movie "Groundhog Day" where the star, and now the oil market, is caught in a time loop. In late May 23, sweet crude oil futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange traded at about $48 per barrel. On Friday August 19, crude oil futures closed at $48.52.
Five oil stocks that coud be ready to pop
In spite of U.S. crude oil inventories rising to the highest level since 1929 and the Doha oil producers meeting in April ending with no agreement to freeze crude oil production prices have risen by about $10 per barrel. Smaller, highly leveraged oil producers such as Energy XXI, SandRidge Energy and Breitburn Energy have recently declared bankruptcy, while the larger better capitalized producers like Marathon Oil and Continental Resources have seen their share prices increase.
Oil stocks that could rally
But a production freeze is being interpreted by the market as a precursor to a production cut. By mid to late summer, we will have a good idea of how much oil Iran has put back on the market. Actual OPEC production levels will probably be 700,000 barrels per day higher than they are today, but OPEC will know where they stand. At the same time, they will have another six months of data regarding shale production in the USA. They will know where we stand.
Is crude oil ready for a rebound? Lipow--commentary
On September 2, WTI crude oil settled at $46.25 per barrel. On Friday, WTI settled at $46.59. And in between, crude oil settled as low as $43.20 and as high as $49.63. Now what? While some might see crude oil falling into a manhole to $30 or less, I think market sentiment may be starting to change, and around the corner is a slow ramp upwards to $55 by January 2017. But like the last two months, the path may be more akin to a rollercoaster. How bad can it get? There is plenty of bearish news out there.
How to play the oil selloff
The oil market is oversupplied. While U.S. production is off its peak due to a declining rig count, Saudi Arabia and Iraq are producing at record levels. Combined with refineries in the U.S. and Europe shutting for their fall maintenance, things look very bleak for oil prices. I think the market will make a run at $34 per barrel by March 2016; the first quarter of 2016 will look the bleakest. These are about the lows we saw back in December 2008 and early 2009.
