Why a Traditional LMS Falls Flat for the Frontline
A new associate finishes onboarding on a Friday. She completed every module, and the certificate is on file. On Saturday she is on the sales floor for the first time, a line building in front of her, and she cannot remember how to process a return. She had finished the training. She could not yet do the job. Anyone who runs frontline training knows this moment, and knows it never shows up in the completion report. The technician who passed the diagnostics course and still misreads the fault code.

Extending WFM Technology to the Retail Sales Floor
Workforce management (WFM) technology is the operational backbone of the retail industry. For years, businesses have optimized these back-office forecasting engines to support everyday operations and manage labour spend. However, to remain competitive in today's labour market, retailers can unlock even greater value by extending these systems directly to the sales floor.

Streamlining the onboarding process amidst high manufacturing turnover Original
The manufacturing industry continues to navigate a highly active and turbulent labour market. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, job vacancies across Australia have remained elevated in recent years, with hundreds of thousands of roles unfilled - including persistent shortages across manufacturing and logistics. However, keeping the factory floor fully staffed remains a constant challenge, as employers contend with ongoing labour mobility and competition for skilled workers.
From reactive to proactive: How Agentic AI is redefining the frontline workforce Original
While AI innovation has swept through white-collar environments, from marketing to finance and on to software development, the vast majority of the world's workforce, those on the frontline, have remained on the sidelines of this transformation. However, that's changing fast thanks to the rise of a new class of artificial intelligence: agentic AI. Unlike traditional AI, which passively responds to user prompts or queries, agentic AI is autonomous, contextual, and action-oriented.

Frontline teams are left in the dark - And it’s costing businesses Original
For the millions of workers who make up the frontline of today's economy, whether in retail, healthcare, hospitality, or logistics, the start of each shift often begins with a fundamental disadvantage - they don't have all the information they need. Real-time updates are patchy or absent, instructions from head office are delayed or garbled. There's often no clear, reliable way to ask questions or raise issues. The result? Missed shifts, compliance risks, and costly operational inefficiencies.
Redefining Workforce Management: Empowering the Frontline in a Post-Pandemic Era
GUEST RESEARCH: The pandemic catalysed a seismic shift in the expectations employees have of their workplaces-especially those on the front lines. Once celebrated as the backbone of our transport, hospitality, and services (THS) sectors, frontline workers are now rightfully demanding more than just a regular salary. They want engagement, flexibility, and purpose-and they want tools that make their work more manageable and meaningful.

OpEd: Economic and policy experts argue against repealing the capital gains tax
Editor’s Note: We enjoy hosting a robust debate here at the Washington State Wire. The capital gains tax enacted by the Legislature last year, and the initiative campaign to repeal it, is one of the most contentious issues in Washington State in recent years. In observation of Tax Day, we offer the first in a series of op-eds on the issue. This piece was submitted as an open letter from nine progressive-leaning academics.
New revenue would boost state GDP, add 66,000 new jobs
New analysis released by Washington State Budget and Policy Center shows that funding new community investments by raising equitable revenue through increased taxes on the very wealthiest Washingtonians would result in increased spending in local economies, tens of thousands of new jobs, and stronger overall growth in the state economy. The Morning Wire: Keeping you informed on politics, policies, and personalities of Washington State.
How to Train Workers in a New Industrial Revolution
As manufacturing shifts, associates must be trained to meet the demands of what is now one of the most tech-savvy jobs on the market. Manufacturers are expected to hold more tech-focused roles, like converting customer orders into 3-D blueprints used to program machines. By Andy Nicholas, VP, Americas, at WorkJam Four years ago, Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, argued that we are in the middle of the fourth industrial revolution.
Unacceptable. Washington still has the nation’s most inequitable state tax code
Washington state continues to have the most upside-down tax code of any U.S. state, according to a new report from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP). It wrongly requires people with the lowest incomes to pay six times more in taxes as a percent of their income than the state’s wealthiest residents to fund investments that benefit all Washingtonians. Lawmakers need to create a more just tax code that better fits our vibrant state economy.
Give Washington's working people a (tax) break
As the deadline looms for the Legislature to fully fund public schools in our state, lawmakers, city and county officials, and community leaders are sharing proposals and ideas for reforming property taxes. That makes sense. The property tax is one of the key tools our state and local governments rely on to pay for our kids’ education and for other vital priorities – like public safety and programs that help lift people out of poverty.
