I'm Angbeen Abbas, and I'm currently pursuing a Sociology degree at the London School of Economics. Originally from Pakistan, I split my time between London and Lahore.

Whilst at university, I've been contributing articles and podcasts for The Beaver, LSE's student newspaper. To call Tzipi Hotovely a polarising figure is an understatement. Having faced opposition to her appointment as Israeli ambassador to the UK by left-wing groups, she has been criticised for her stances on Israeli human rights groups and the West Bank settlements, accusing Palestinians of being the “thieves of history”. Walking into 32 Lincoln’s Inn Fields and being scanned by a metal detector and patted down is a reminder of this.

Claims of silverfish ‘infestation’ at Sidney Webb House

Students residing at Sidney Webb House, a privately-managed LSE hall of residence, claim that at least two blocks in the residence are infested with silverfish. In an article published by The UCL Tab, LSE students reported that at least two blocks of the hall have infestations, with hall management encouraging students to “kill them yourselves”.

some thoughts on mental health(TM) at uni

the crisis of mental health on campus is one that’s well documented, and many institutions have certainly been trying to expand their wellbeing teams and emphasise reaching out to students. it’s important to celebrate these wins and acknowledge them, and it’s reassuring to know that pressure from students is resulting in universities allocating more resources towards wellbeing.
