Abstract Research on how learners’ lived experiences, identities, and sociopolitical contexts shape learning with and through data is an emerging area of study. This study contributes to this growing body of work by examining how minoritized youth learn with data by enlivening it. Enlivening data foregrounds how young people integrate institutional datasets with embodied, emotional, historical, and community-generated forms of data to make data matter in their lives.

For years, teachers have been told that students need accountability, responsibility, and high expectations. We know that rewarding students by giving a minimum grade of 50 percent for doing absolutely nothing is counterproductive and hurts everyone. But, many teachers have been required to follow these exact grading policies that seem to send students the exact opposite message. Now South Carolina is pushing back and honestly, every state should.
