What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job as a journalist was for my student newspaper at the University of Idaho, The Argonaut.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, I have never used a typewriter.

How is social media changing news?

Social media is changing the way we discover news and challenging our abilities to fact check and source accurate information.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I don't think I know of any?

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Boldly tell the story of diversity and the range of human experience.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to be pitched via email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Wordpress, Google Analytics, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter, hands down.

Why did you become a journalist?

I found my place in the organized chaos of the newsroom. It’s where I thrive, where I do amazing work on deadline, where I find an intense focus where others feel intense pressure.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, unfortunately my high school was actually much too small to have a student newspaper.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm most proud of my reporting for The Argonaut in 2020 that exposed the inefficiencies of the University of Idaho's COVID-19 testing system.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

To work hard and never take no for an answer.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time of the day!

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch I ever got was for a story about the struggle international students face at my university.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I worst pitch I ever received was for a story that ultimately didn't have public interest.

What's your favorite drink?

Water

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Out looking for scoops!

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I read the Idaho Statesman fairly regularly.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it's boring. Meetings can be fun!
