Fast Forward in Namibia | Holiday Articles
Wexas Honorary President Jonathan Scott goes in search of cheetahs in the deserts of Namibia. Pictures by Jonathan & Angela Scott (originally published in 2015) Namibia is like no other country in Africa, a desert land the size of Britain and France combined. When I think of Namibia, I think of the ravishing pastel colours of the Namib desert, with the towering dunes at Sossusvlei washed a surreal orange and brown, soaring knife-edged to 300 meters against the bluest skies on earth.

This is hardily the worst thing that can happen to them on stage.George Spelvin, the main character in "The Actor's Nightmare," wakes up backstage of a theater and doesn't know how he got there, says director Isaac Newton.Of course, it gets worse.
Photography tips from Jonathan and Angela Scott
Jonathan and Angie Scott, the only couple to have ever individually won the prestigious award of 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' award, share their tips for photographing wildlife, to celebrate Jonathan's new autobiography, The Big Cat Man. Though my first clumsy attempts at being a wildlife photographer proved disastrous I did at least get one thing right – I chose a Canon camera.
When the lion roars
Kenya has been my home for forty years, my wife and daughter are citizens, our grandson was born here and has made more safaris in his first year than many people will be privileged to do in a lifetime – and he has enjoyed a holiday at the coast. Four weeks ago this prompted me to write an article that appeared in the travel section of the Saturday Telegraph in the UK – the land of my birth – telling people just how much Kenya needed tourism – that it was vital to our economy and to conservation.
The best books to read on human-wildlife conflict and sustainable conservation
Sacred Nature 2: Reconnecting People to Our Planet This book is an amazing collection of stunning pictures – I loved the outstanding photographs of wildlife, landscapes, people and the vast but fragile web of nature taken by photographers and naturalists Jonathan and Angela Scott. I found the combination of the impact of the images, the quotations about nature, and the narrative accompanying the pictures to be incredible – joyful and sombre.
SACRED NATURE: Life's Eternal Dance by Jonathan and Angela Scott
Over the years there has been a plethora of sumptuously printed coffee table books featuring memorable images of Africa’s iconic wildlife. While very few of these have disappointed (such is the extraordinary and ever-improving standard of wildlife photography in the digital era), it is rare for one title to stand out above all others. Sacred Nature is one such rarity. This may be Jonathan and Angela Scott’s 30th book, but it is without doubt their magnum opus.
Sights & Sounds of East Oakland: Creating a lineage of artists at Eastside Arts Alliance
Turning down 23rd Avenue towards International Boulevard, I see the words “Culture is a weapon” painted the side of a building wall. Painted below are indigenous peoples, Black Panther party members and immigrant workers. This everted museum among concrete and discarded trash sits behind a wired gate. I am peeking into the Congolese culture of national symbols, weavings and dancers in their traditional dress.
Ol Pejeta: Champions of Conservation
Ol Pejeta is a place that embodies hope. Shouldered in between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, Ol Pejeta Conservancy has proven that conservation and community development are not only mutually compatible but can also be mutually beneficial.

The purpose of the #KenyaLive campaign, initiated by Make It Kenya, is to showcase what a safari to Kenya is like via a series of live web broadcasts on Twitter’s Periscope app. Even though our time at ‘Encounter’ was short, our 24-hours at this camp allowed us to share some wonderful wildlife experiences with safari enthusiasts around the word.

Kenya: 'The Last Place on Earth; The Great Migration'
I have travelled the world with my wife Angela in an attempt to capture the visual splendour of our wild places. We have marvelled at the sight of tens of thousands of king penguins pressed shoulder to shoulder among the guano spattered tussock grass at St Andrew’s Bay in South Georgia; have crouched along the edge of a sparkling summer torrent in Alaska’s Katmai National to witness the giant coastal brown bears feasting on the profligacy of the salmon run. Both are epic in their own way.
