1. Introduction Meaning in life, including religion and spirituality, is often described as the subjective sense that one’s life makes sense, has purpose, and matters to others (King and Hicks 2021). Spirituality, in a broad sense, encompasses all efforts to seek and find meaning, purpose, and hope in connection with what is sacred or significant, whether interpreted through secular, religious, philosophical, humanist, or personal perspectives (Bussing et al. 2014).

1 Introduction Issues related to meaning in life (MIL) play explicit or implicit roles in problems among patients seeking psychotherapy (Hill et al. 2015). MIL is a central issue in both logotherapy (Frankl 1959/1985) and existential psychotherapy (Yalom 1980). Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a contemporary mindfulness-based behavior therapy (Hayes 2005), targets the creation of a valued, meaningful life.
