A noncanonical GTPase signaling mechanism controls exit from mitosis in budding yeast
Abstract In the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, exit from mitosis is coupled to spindle position to ensure successful genome partitioning between mother and daughter cell. This coupling occurs through a GTPase signaling cascade known as the mitotic exit network (MEN). The MEN senses spindle position via a Ras-like GTPase Tem1 which primarily localizes to the spindle pole bodies (SPBs, yeast equivalent of centrosomes) during anaphase.

Context is everything: aneuploidy in cancer
Abstract Cancer is driven by multiple types of genetic alterations, which range in size from point mutations to whole-chromosome gains and losses, known as aneuploidy. Chromosome instability, the process that gives rise to aneuploidy, can promote tumorigenesis by increasing genetic heterogeneity and promoting tumour evolution. However, much less is known about how aneuploidy itself contributes to tumour formation and progression.
Chromosome Segregation Fidelity in Epithelia Requires Tissue Architecture
Highlights • Primary epithelial cells missegregate chromosomes when cultured as monolayers • Organoid culture rescues mitotic defects in an integrin-dependent manner • Tissue architecture promotes correction of merotelic kinetochore attachments • Disruption of tissue architecture could underlie chromosome instability in cancer Summary Much of our understanding of chromosome segregation is based on cell culture systems.
MitoCPR-A surveillance pathway that protects mitochondria in response to protein import stress
The import of proteins into mitochondria is essential for cell viability. How cells respond when mitochondrial protein import is impaired is poorly understood. Weidberg and Amon showed that upon mitochondrial import stress, yeast cells mounted a response known as the mitoCPR. mitoCPR was activated when mitochondrial protein import was impaired and unimported precursors accumulated on the organelle's surface.
