OFSTED inspectors have slammed a small Bristol independent school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) for putting pupils 'at risk of harm'. Elmtree Grove, on Overndale Road just off Downend Road in East Bristol, was found to not be meeting safeguarding standards following an inspection on January 27, the results of which were published at the end of May.

Bristol beer crowned best in Britain

A beer from Bristol has been crowned the best in the nation. Independence, a pale ale crafted by the Bristol Beer Factory, took home the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) 'Champion Beer of Britain 2026' gong at the Cambridge Beer Festival. Sam Burrows, managing director of Bristol Beer Factory, said he was delighted to be following in some illustrious footsteps, but cheekily added the prize had been a long time coming. "The lineage of the Champion Beer of Britain is impeccable," he said.

Bristol's longest-running Indian restaurant set to close after 45 years

The curtain is coming down on a curry house that has been a fixture of central Bristol for nearly half a century. The Raj on King Street, the city's oldest surviving Indian restaurant which opened in 1981, will host its last meal on Saturday June 13. The restaurant's owners had originally planned for Monday (June 8) to be its last day of trading, but they are keeping the curries coming out for a few extra days after reaching an agreement with their landlord.
