The Gaza Flotillas Will Not Stop
While Palestinians are exhausted from the Israeli genocide and ethnic cleansing and the coordinators and volunteers of the Gaza Flotillas are tired, they like the Palestinians, will never give up challenging the immoral, criminal actions of the Israeli state. In the past two years a remarkable number of persons have confronted the Israeli military at sea. Over 1,000 persons on hundreds of boats have risked their lives by direct confrontation with the Israeli genocidal military.

Give Snow Shovels, Not Bullets, to the National Guard in DC
I’ve been in Washington, DC for the past week battling the icy and snow piled sidewalks and streets, one week after the big snow and ice storm that immobilized the city for days. While using the city’s buses and Metros, it was very apparent the most probable danger in DC is falling on sidewalk ice and at unshoveled bus stops.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. was working to “gather the facts” about the killing by Israeli military forces of U.S. citizen Aysenur Eygi. Blinken does not need time to “gather the facts.” The facts are already known to the Israeli military, the U.S. military and the U.S. government. WWII patches bring back memories for veteran
There aren’t many folks around these days who recognize the collection Robert Rodowsky created more than 80 years ago. It’s a variety of patches attached to the thick pages of a scrapbook worn by time and storage in a basement U.S. Army and Army Air Forces, Navy and Marine Corps patches, any that the 6- and 7-year-old Rodowsky could get his hands on back in the early 1940s. His mother’s cursive with a few identifying words next to many of the patches is now barely visible.

Why Did the US Spend $320 Million on a Rube Goldberg Pier For Gaza?
While in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for 29 years, I thought I had seen some pretty stupid things the military was told by politicians to do. It always begins with politicians deciding the easiest, most sensible solution to a problem would have too much political baggage and cost them votes in the next election. So, they look for a politically expedient solution, one that is invariably very expensive and convoluted.
Underhanded Israeli Tactic Delays Flotilla Departure
The Freedom Flotilla is ready to sail. All the required paperwork has been submitted to the port authority, and the cargo has been loaded and prepared for the trip to Gaza. However, today we received word of an administrative roadblock initiated by Israel in an attempt to prevent our departure. Israel is pressuring the Republic of Guinea Bissau to withdraw its flag from our lead ship—Akdeniz (“Mediterranean”).

The Ghosts of Gaza Are Whispering Every Night
Israeli military young men and women are not the first to have recurring nightmares of what they have seen and done. They are not the first to dissolve into the abyss of war. American military from World War I, World War II, the war on Viet Nam, the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan have suffered from the ghosts of those wars. Twenty U.S. military veterans commit suicide each day from the effects of those wars.

Now, four years later, in the past three months, two people in the United States have taken or risked taking their own lives in an attempt to change U.S. policies on Palestine and call for a cease-fire and stop U.S. funding to the State of Israel that would be used to kill in the Israeli genocide of Gaza. Why Would Anyone Kill Themselves to Stop a War?
Six years ago in 2018, after returning from a Veterans For Peace trip to Vietnam, I wrote an article called “Why Would Anyone Kill One’s Self In an Attempt to Stop A War?” Now, six years later, in the past three months, two people in the United States have taken or risked taking their own lives in an attempt to change U.S. policies on Palestine and call for a cease-fire and stop U.S. funding to the State of Israel that would be used to kill in the Israeli genocide of Gaza.
2 Baptist Pastors and US Senators Vote for More Killing of Palestinians in Gaza
The February 12, 2024 U.S. Senate vote on $14 billion to Israel shows the depravity of most of the members of the legislative body. In particular it showed the hypocrisy of the two senators who are pastors of a Christian denominations as well as the shallowness of the few senators who called for a cease-fire and then voted for money to kill more Palestinians. Only three Senators who caucus with the Democrats voted against the funding—Sens.
For God’s Sake Joe, What the Hell Are You Doing?

Cease-Fire Now! What I Said to the UN Security Council
Not many people have the opportunity to provide an oral and written statement to the United Nations Security Council. I had my chance on December 11, 2023, when I was asked as a retired U.S. Army colonel and a former U.S. diplomat to speak on weapons transfers in the Russia-Ukraine war.

There should be treaty against weaponized drones
Citizen activism to bring about changes in how brutal wars are conducted is extremely difficult, but not impossible. Citizens have successfully pushed through the United Nations General Assembly treaties to abolish nuclear weapons and to ban the use of landmines and cluster munitions. Of course, countries that want to continue to use these weapons will not follow the lead of the vast majority of countries in the world and sign those treaties.

Chocolate, Politics and Peace-Building
In 2002 I spent a year as a field volunteer in Colombia for Peace Brigades International (PBI), an organization which provides protective physical accompaniment to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in conflict zones. Most of the HRDs we accompanied were individuals: lawyers investigating massacres; women organizing in shanty towns; families of the detained and disappeared visiting prisons or attending court.
"Our society still needs to demonstrate that Human Rights Defenders can take action without the threat of being killed"
Latino Life: The Colombian electorate voted ‘No’ in the referendum on the Peace Process? How do you explain that? Reinaldo Villalba: The ‘No’ vote unexpectedly won by the tiniest of margins; half a percent. The main was that in the final stages the ‘No’ campaign targeted specific sectors of society with a series of false messages and violent images.
Chicago Foundation for Women takes actionable steps toward becoming an anti-racist organization
Two years ago, the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others sparked anger, outrage and a rallying cry in communities across the country and created more of an imperative for sustainable, transparent and race-forward conversations on allyship and equity. As a result, companies and organizations of all sizes, across all sectors, have been moved to bolder actions to live out their purpose. Organizations can create exponential progress for customers, employees and communities.
