'Everest: The Other Side' Made for the Highest, Most Inhospitable Film Set on Planet Earth
Just after 10:40 A.M. on September 26, 2022, ski mountaineers Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison clipped into their skis on the exposed summit of Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world. They were on the Nepali peak training for an even more audacious goal: skiing the direct North Face of Mount Everest, a descent no one had ever completed. Pemba Sherpa (Sharwa) was on the ridge filming them for the upcoming documentary, Everest: The Other Side.
Arctic cloud condensation nuclei enhanced by iodine, sulfur and organic precursors

Abstract New particle formation is an important source of Arctic atmospheric particles and cloud condensation nuclei, yet their precursor sources and molecular-level mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here we report comprehensive ship-based observations from 19 May to 26 June 2022 from southeastern to western Greenland and into the Davis Strait’s marginal ice zone to investigate sources and processes controlling atmospheric particles and cloud condensation nuclei.

Himalayan tragedy: Avalanche engulfs world-famous climber Nims Purja Original
David Klein and Ian Overton did not like what they were seeing. By the last week of July the two men had been living under Pakistan’s 26,414-foot Broad Peak for a month, and the mountain in front of them had dramatically changed its mood. They had come to climb it in alpine style without bottled oxygen and no porters. Klein, a Hungarian who led the country’s first ascent attempt on Broad Peak in 2000, and Overton, an American ER nurse, tried Nanga Parbat together in winter 2012.
Yes, I Skied in My Third Trimester. Here’s What I Wore.
As fall faded in Colorado, where I live, I started to get bummed. Peak winter this year coincided with my third trimester of pregnancy and I assumed two things would happen: I’d get bigger and more uncomfortable as my baby doubled in size, and I’d be waddling around icy sidewalks trying to ignore everyone out ripping backcountry pow laps. Only the first part of that came true. While I’m not having my typical ski season, I’ve found delight in early morning uphill laps at the local hill.
Will Smith on his most transformative adventure yet Original
WILL SMITH KNOWS how to push boundaries on-screen, but the actor takes that impulse to literal extremes in his new docuseries, Pole to Pole. The show follows Smith on a 26,000-mile journey from the South Pole to the North Pole, plunging him into some of the most remote environments on the planet—from the heart of the Amazon to the Kalahari Desert.

Women Weren’t “Tough Enough” to Finish the Barkley Marathons—Until Jasmin Paris Came Along
In a 2015 YouTube video, an interviewer asked Gary “Laz” Cantrell why no women had finished his race, the infamous Barkley Marathons in the rugged mountains of Tennessee. “The race is too hard for women,” he replied with a sly grin. “They are simply not tough enough to do it, and I get to say that for as long as it goes that no one proves me wrong.” Since the inception of the race—which consists of five consecutive 20-plus-mile loops, hence “marathons”—in 1986, only 20 runners have finished.

Here’s How to Live It Up in the Mountain Time Zone This Year
There’s something poetic about the Mountain Time Zone in that it tells you exactly what the region’s priorities are. This magical strip of the country is home to the massive ranges of the Rocky Mountains, which stretch from British Columbia to New Mexico, and are dotted with popular towns like Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Park City, Utah, and smaller gems like Silverton, Colorado, and Taos, New Mexico. For those who live there, getting outside is one of life’s main organizing principles.
