Media use and processing of media content are usually conceptualized as individual processes. The social reality of media use is quite companionable, however. In 2018, almost half of all video viewing time in the United States was spent with others like partners, family, or friends (GfK, 2019). After media use, people regularly discuss the content with their social circle (Gehrau, 2019).
