Some thoughts on colonial legacies in Indonesia
In the early 20th century, those Dutch residents in Indonesia who supported what became known as the Ethical Policy spoke of the debt of honour which the Dutch owed Indonesians, and especially Javanese, for the exploitative policies the Dutch had implemented in the 19th century. The ethical school advocated three key policies which they deemed essential in order to deal with what they thought was the problem of overpopulation in Java.

While these initial figures are still preliminary, they raise important questions about Indonesia’s demographic and economic future. The data shows that Indonesia’s total population sat at 270.2 million in September 2020 after an annual average growth rate of 1.25 per cent in the decade 2010-2020.

Indonesia’s inconsistent income distribution data | East Asia Forum
15 May 2020 Author: Anne Booth, SOAS It is now widely believed that the distribution of income in Indonesia has become more skewed since the fall of Suharto in 1998. Even commentators who extoll positive economic developments post-Suharto accept that Indonesia’s upper income groups are doing better than its poorest. Others who are more sceptical of reformasi’s achievements argue that inequalities are than under Suharto.

‘Red & Lulu’ By Matt TavaresTwo cardinals, Red and Lulu, couldn’t be happier. They live together in a cozy nest in an evergreen tree beside a country house. The Cast Of "Are You Afraid Of The Dark" And Where They Are Now
Okay, so you’re probably not afraid of the dark anymore, but when you were a kid this show scared the living daylights out of you. We all have our favourite episodes of this Canadian-made show (personally, I’m still haunted by the Tale of the Ghastly Grinner) but we really need to give credit where credit is due: to the members of the Midnight Society. They were the adolescents braving night time walks through the forest, throwing magic sand into the fire, to share these nightmarish tales with us.
