Short-Lived Relief: The Racial Geography of Rebounding Eviction Rates in Postmoratorium St. Louis
Abstract This visualization examines time series and spatial trends in eviction case filings in St. Louis and St. Louis County before, during, and after the federal eviction moratorium.
Scope creep in California’s equitable mobility policy: Competing or complementing policy goals?
ABSTRACT Transportation programs are often tasked with myriad policy goals. In this paper, we measure the extent to which these goals may conflict or complement each other. Specifically, we assess how well shared mobility pilot programs—including bikeshare, microtransit, and carshare—in disadvantaged communities across California perform on two of their legislatively-mandated goals: (1) reduce greenhouse gas emissions and (2) improve mobility equity.
Pilots and Shifting Public Sentiment: Evidence From e-Scooters in Eugene (OR)
Abstract Problem, research strategy, and findings Pilot projects are an increasingly popular tool for dealing with opposition to new ideas. The premise is simple—let experience change minds—but it belies considerable uncertainty. How do opinions evolve during a pilot project? How do planners make sense of shifting opinions, and what strategies do they employ to successfully navigate through it?

2023 - Writer Unboxed
Back when I was the editor of a regional lifestyle magazine, I discovered that one of the photographers we worked with had a bachelor’s degree in music and that he had once worked as a professional musician. In her former career, an interior designer who was a consultant for the magazine had been a sought-after portrait photographer. Our creative director, a skilled graphic designer, had a side gig working as a comic book artist. The writers I worked with were no different.
Three Ways to Structure a Chapter
Since having my first novel published over a decade ago, I have received more writing advice than I can remember. I’ve crumpled some of that advice into hundreds of paper balls while the rest lives in three-ring notebooks flagged with colorful Post-it notes. The difficult thing about advice is that it’s almost always contradictory. To prologue or not to prologue, that is the question. Therefore, deciding what works best can only be determined after much trial and error.
Scooter Parking
6. Provide plentiful, intuitive parking and scooter riders will use it In-app messages and sidewalk decals represent small-scale interventions that cities can implement to reduce scooter mis-parking, and both proved marginally effective at doing so. Cities can also implement broader scale interventions such as lock-to requirements, where scooters must be parked and physically locked to bike racks or other infrastructure. In the U.S., just four cities impose “lock-to” requirements (Brown, 2021).
Buying Access One Trip at a Time

Spreading the Gospel of Induced Demand
Transportation scholars have long known that we cannot build our way out of traffic congestion. Adding new road capacity attracts more travelers from other modes, other times of day, and other routes. In other words, “If you build it, they will come.” Perhaps surprisingly, adding new transit capacity does the same thing. A driver who leaves a busy rush hour freeway to ride a train will soon be replaced by someone else. This phenomenon is known as induced demand, and it is not a new idea.
Political Partisanship and Transportation Reform
Transportation planners tend to agree that a future with more walking, biking, and transit use would be better for public health, the planet, and household and government finance than a future with more driving. Yet efforts to reshape the transportation system at the national and local levels have made frustratingly little progress in the United States.
What is known about the nutritional intake of women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum?: A scoping review
Highlights • Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is an extreme form of pregnancy nausea and vomiting. • Women with HG are at risk of malnutrition, but little data exists on dietary intake. • This review identified only four studies that measured diet in women with HG. • Women with HG have highly deficient intakes of energy and nearly all nutrients. • Further research evaluating dietary intake in this high-risk group is warranted.
How to Communicate Without Words
A while back, I texted my daughter. Dinner is ready. Her: Are you mad at me? What? Why? I'm just saying that dinner is ready. Her: Your period is really angry. Perhaps you’ve encountered this yourself. These days, if your text message doesn’t end in an exclamation point, you come off as terse, and even (apparently) supremely pissed off.
Explore the Natchez Trace from Tennessee to Mississippi | Budget Travel
©Jeff Fladen/500px If you ever find yourself in need of a day of meandering adventure or aching to take the long, scenic route, be sure to stop at these amazing sites. Back in the 1800’s the way to travel across the southeast was to walk or ride your horse on this “trace”. Back then, if you were headed anywhere along the path between Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN, you used a worn down trail for your long days of travel. Two hundred years later, the Natchez Trace has preserved its history.
11 social distancing adventures near New Orleans
In New Orleans, the famous strip of bars and restaurants dubbed Bourbon Street holds some of the most active nightlife, but in March, everything was turned upside down by the arrival of COVID-19. New Orleans was hit dramatically at the start of the stateside pandemic. The city has progressed through the reopening phases slower than the rest of the state of Louisiana. Louisiana is currently in phase two, allowing for restaurants to open at 50% capacity among other restrictions.
Redefining Car Access
Ride-hail companies—also known as ridesource and transportation network companies—such as Uber and Lyft offer an opportunity to redefine car access by connecting riders to drivers through smartphone applications. Ride-hailing in its current form is just 7 years old, yet nearly 1 in 10 Americans takes a ride-hail trip each month (Conway, Salon, & King, 2018 Conway, M., Salon, D., & King, D. (2018).
Planning Your Own Weekend Writers’ Retreat
Photo Cred: Alex Robert With the WU Uncon just around the corner, many of us are getting excited for a writing retreat. There is the anticipation of seeing old friends and meeting new ones, the expectation of learning something new, and the chance to gain insight and inspiration for the current WIP. And while big retreats like the Uncon pack a big punch, there is also much to be gained from smaller, more intimate retreats—especially ones you plan yourself.
Life wi the Broons - finding joy
The fourth in a series of blog posts by our Scots writer, Anne Brown. So why do it? Why push oorsels to the limit? Maybe it’s to prove to oorsels that we can. Three years ago I started ridin again after a long break. I thought that it wis somethin else in my life that had gone. I’d given away my jods, ridin boots and hung up my hat. I’d taken on a new persona as someone that canny do things, canny walk far, no safe to be oot on her own, someone to be looked after.
Life wi the Broons: discovering new hobbies
The fifth in a series of blog posts by our Scots writer, Anne Brown. I’ve given up hobbies that I used tae love. One in particular was purely fur safety reasons. Hubby and I used to go line dancing! Yeah I know, hoo sad wur we? But we really enjoyed it. It got a bit too dangerous tho’ when I cudny spin without landing oan ma backside, and cudny keep in a line. Umpteen poor souls got their feet trampled before I hud to admit defeat and gie away ma cowboy boots.

Can ride-sharing apps and automonous vehicles help bridge the gap between mobility haves and have-nots?
“Grace” is a single mom with two kids living in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Because high rents have put car ownership out of reach, Grace endures a hellish daily commute. Each weekday, she rises at 5:30 a.m. to dress and feed her children and walk them four blocks to her cousin Lydia’s apartment; Lydia then walks Grace’s daughter to daycare and her son to elementary school while Grace makes a 75-minute, two-bus trek from Koreatown to her job as a teacher’s aide in Westchester.
Orl to Ewr Sept 23rd no seats sold
Welcome to Flyertalk. First off, prices fluctuate all the time. If you don't like the price today, just wait until tomorrow. Not trying to be flip, but prices can change multiple times a day. Here are some tips to get a good deal As far as your specific question goes, I'm a little confused because I'm seeing lower prices to JFK/LGA as opposed to EWR. Here is a list of all one-way flights from MCO to JFK/LGA/EWR:The early morning flight is a decent (but certainly not fantastic) deal.
Visual Thinking
A month or so ago, I was deep into first-pass editing. This is the stage after you receive an editorial letter that poses questions about character development, suggests adding scenes (or removing them), and encourages other “big picture” thinking.
