The network API moment: How to unlock value through global scale
Telecom history often repeats itself – especially when operators underestimate digital disruption. A little over a decade ago, telcos saw billions in SMS revenue disappear as over-the-top (OTT) messaging apps like Viber, WhatsApp, WeChat and Messenger took over consumer messaging. Today, operators face a similar crossroads, but this time the outcome can be different.
Future-proofing Networks with the Right Cloud Investments
Cloud technology has evolved over the past decade from being a helpful business tool to becoming one of the business world’s key foundations. Digital transformation strategies revolve around migrating applications, assets, and infrastructure to the cloud with the goal of enabling a more adaptable and agile operation. While most organizations were already executing on their cloud migration strategies pre-COVID, the pandemic was a serious wake-up call for those lagging behind.
Addressing the Needs of a More Connected Customer
We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it has us all reflecting on what the post-Covid future may bring. This is certainly true for contact centers and anyone tasked with meeting customer needs in the coming months and years. The contact center took center stage when the pandemic hit, with call volumes spiking over 800% from normal levels, according to research from Pindrop.
5 Enterprise Risks that Can be Solved by a Service Mesh
The adoption of cloud technologies has inherently changed how applications are built. Organizations that have embraced this change have had to dispense with outdated developer methodologies and embrace new, cloud-native patterns like microservices, Kubernetes, and the use of a service mesh.
Mitigating the Risks of Multi-Cloud Environments
As enterprises migrate more IT systems from their data centers to the cloud, they are increasingly deploying workloads across a mix of public and private cloud technologies. These multi-cloud and hybrid environments create new challenges for security and networking teams responsible for addressing myriad issues related to multi-cloud operations and security while keeping costs in check and maintaining development teams' productivity levels.
Cloud-based Communications Systems Offer Office Phone Alternative
When the pandemic took hold of the United States in early 2020, millions found themselves confined to their homes and logging on to work remotely for the first time. In fact, from mid-March to early April, the percentage of Americans working from home doubled from 31% to 62%. While that number has steadily decreased since the rollout of vaccines, countless employees continue to work remotely some or all of the time and hope to continue doing so well after the pandemic is over.
Distributed Cloud: The Future of Cloud Computing
More and more companies are moving to distributed clouds. This is a fundamentally new approach to cloud computing. Analysts at Gartner have named the move to distributed clouds as one of the top ten technology trends of 2021. Let's see why distributed clouds are beneficial for business and what advantages they have. What is a distributed cloud? A distributed cloud is a type of cloud service that allows you to use centralized resources but, if necessary, start computing processes on local equipment.
Stop winging it: Business communications has become even smarter than you think
The only thing consistent about today's consumers is that they don't present a consistent face to businesses, so most companies can't rely on just a couple customer journeys to determine what consumers want and need. Progressive businesses are now deploying AI-powered customer experience platforms to enable them to manage the increasing complexity and challenges of customer interactions.
Is your organization prepared for the future of customer and employee experience?
Since recently joining Avaya as Chief Product Officer, I have been engaged in a lot of deep discussions about addressing the evolving market needs for customer and employee experience solutions. The last 12 months have seen massive emphasis on the employee experience as it relates to the customer journey. With tangible benefits like 21% greater profitability and 41% lower absenteeism, organizations would be wise to consider the symbiotic relationship between customer and employee experience.

Step-By-Step: Getting Started with Azure Machine Learning
Artificial Intelligence (AI) study and use is on the rise. Tools to enable AI are becoming more readily available, simpler to use and easier to implement. What's more is that the definition of AI itself has been broken down into ingredients that, when later applied into a recipe (or process), can provide multiple desired outcomes. One of the more important ingredients used in most recipes is Machine Learning.

Step-By-Step: Migrating The Active Directory Certificate Service From Windows Server 2003 to 2012 R2
Support for both Windows Server 2003 and 2003 R2 ended on July 14th 2015 and yet there are still a number of organizations operating their businesses on it. With this in mind, there are still a great number of IT professionals in midst of planning migration. This guide, originally shared by Microsoft MVP Dishan Francis, will provide steps on migrating AD CS from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 R2. This demonstration will use the following setup.
Backup, Restore, Repeat!
12-18-2018 11:02 PM With two cities now completed, Microsoft Ignite the Tour is well underway and the "Ask the Experts" area has provided a plethora of questions for our team to research and answer. In São Paulo, our team received a lot of questions surrounding backing up VMware VMs via Azure Backup. Namely best practices surrounding secure backup and restoring of VMware VMs as well as the files within the VM itself.
Why the world isn't truly connected...yet (Reader Forum)
Even though it may seem like we are living in a completely connected world, we’re not. And, as the Internet of Things dramatically expands the number and scope of connected devices, the traditional communications connectivity model no longer delivers the kind of flexibility and autonomy that managing multi-country IoT projects require. Enterprises need a single, global mobile network, or at least the appearance of a seamless one! Here’s the reality: The Internet of Things is still in its infancy.
International Human Rights Day: How Technology Is Empowering People Across The World In Amazing
One of the earliest milestones in the evolution of humanity was the control of fire by early humans. Fire by its very nature is a destructive force, but its use in the right circumstances gave us heat, light and, a few hundred thousand years later, the means to fuel the global industrial revolution. Like so many elements of life, positive and negative effect hangs in the balance.
Step-By-Step: Setting up AD FS and Enabling Single Sign-On to Office 365
This post will walk you through a typical highly available setup into Office 365. Ideally this server will be installed as virtual servers on multiple Hyper-V hosts. Think about redundancy, not only in the virtual servers, but in the Hyper-V servers as well. Install one AD FS and one AD FS Proxy on one Hyper-V host and the other AD FS and AD FS Proxy on another Hyper-V host. This prevents loss of service from a hardware failure.
Step-By-Step: Enabling Advanced Security Audit Policy via Directory Services Access
Active directory is one of the more impactful services from a security perspective within an organization. Even small changes with in an Organization’s AD can cause a major business impact. Preventing any unauthorized access and unplanned changes in an AD environment should be top of mind for any system administrator. Security threats are changing every day and sometimes the default event logs may not be enough to help to answer what has gone wrong.
Is_IoT_the_latest_Shadow_IT_Threat?
Remember the days when workers used to bring their own mobile device to work that did not meet the guidelines of said organization but found a way to connect it anyway? While troublesome, most times these devices would set off an alert or notification using the multitude of tools available when attempting to acquire data via these devices. What happens when devices only require your organization’s network for connectivity to pass through data or accept commands?
Step-By-Step: Enabling Hyper-V for use on Windows 10
Virtualization provides a plethora of solutions from making the most of an organization’s hardware investment to running specific applications in other OS offerings. Windows 8 was the first Windows client operating system to include hardware virtualization support natively. Using the same technology found in Windows Server 2012 R2, the embedded Hyper-V client allowed IT professionals to move VMs from server to client without the requirement to re-learn the use of Hyper-V features and tools.

How to: Enable Custom Domain Names in Azure via PowerShell
Simplicity of domain name assignment are sometimes just as important as the content the site showcases. When creating a site on Azure however, the site is assigned as a subdomain of cloudapp.net. The result is said site having a URL such as yoursite.cloudapp.net instead of yoursite.com. This post will help address this by detailing steps on how to add a CNAME and A record for a custom domain.

Hack a Mousetrap with Windows 10 Internet Of Things
Recently DX team members from Microsoft Canada took part in the DevOps Hackathon. Our hack was to literally build a better mousetrap by connecting a Raspberry Pi to record the number of times a trap is set off and where the trap has been set off. The data is fed through IoT Hub, stored in Azure SQL and then fed to Azure Machine Learning to provide predictions as to when the traps would need to be emptied.
