The bank of global, publicly available SARS-CoV-2 genomic sequence data increased substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of sequences submitted to public databases more than doubled overall (and increased in all income categories) between the Alpha period and the Delta period, doubling again between the Delta and Omicron periods.
