Al Holland, a 10-year reliever known for his time with the Philadelphia Phillies in the early 1980’s, passed away on Saturday, July 4, in Fort Mill, South Carolina, surrounded by loved ones. He was 73. Born Alfred Willis Holland on August 16, 1952, in Roanoke, Virginia, Holland starred in football, basketball, and baseball at Lucy Addison High School and would eventually enroll at North Carolina A&T in 1971.

Bill White has received several illustrious honors throughout his baseball career. He’s been an All-Star player as well as a trailblazing announcer and league president. And now, later this month, he’ll add his overall legacy to the Hall of Fame.

On May 7th, the family of late San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler announced an agreement to sell the franchise to an investor group led by Jose E. Feliciano, part-owner of the English Premier League team, Chelsea F.C., and his wife, Kwanza Jones. The couple are also listed as co-owners of the investment firm, Clearlake Capital. It’s been erroneously reported that pending MLB approval, Ms. Jones would become the first black female majority owner in baseball history.
