Retail is the second largest industry sector in Switzerland and one of the largest actors in training apprentices. Every year, a comparable high number1 of young people in the Swiss retail sector graduate with a Swiss Federal Certificate or Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.

My interest in the connection between creativity and work may seem to have arisen in an unexpected way to outsiders. In a rather unimaginative, power-oriented and highly bureaucratic policy organization, in which I worked for a few years, there were colleagues, who apparently chose to intellectually escape from that somewhat depressing environment into the various fields of the arts.
