Some of Australia’s largest listed companies have rewarded their senior executives with significant increases in base pay as well as bonuses over the past year according to a new survey. The latest annual Board & Executive Remuneration Report released by Governance Institute of Australia and McGuirk Remuneration has found that fixed salaries of Managing Directors across ASX listed companies rose an average of 11 per cent, while CEO salaries rose an average of 14 per cent.

A new report on Australia’s boardroom diversity has raised concerns about the pipeline of experienced women directors after the number of women holding board seats in ASX 200-300 listed companies fell sharply over the past 12 months. The 2024 Board Diversity Index from Watermark Search International and the Governance Institute of Australia found female representation on smaller company boards fell from 44 per cent in 2022 to just 32 per cent last year.

Politicians at all levels of government have seen a significant increase in the public’s perception of their ethical behaviour according to the results of the 2023 Governance Institute of Australia Ethics Index. Based on an independent survey conducted by research company Ipsos, the Governance Institute of Australia’s annual report reveals the ethical behaviour of state and federal politicians has been rated far more positively this year, compared to 2022.
