What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a journalist is to question, investigate, and tell stories that matter. It means holding power to account, giving voice to those unheard, and bringing clarity to complex issues. A journalist must be curious, critical, and committed to truth—even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s not just about reporting facts but understanding their impact on people and society. It involves responsibility, accuracy, and empathy. Being a journalist also means embracing uncertainty—often working under pressure, in difficult conditions, or against prevailing narratives. Ultimately, it’s a commitment to public service, truth-seeking, and amplifying realities that shape our world.

Why did you become a journalist?
I decided to become a freelance journalist because I value the freedom to pursue stories that truly matter, rather than being limited by an editorial agenda. Freelancing allows me to work across borders, explore underreported issues, and give voice to communities often overlooked in mainstream narratives. It gives me the flexibility to combine rigorous reporting with thoughtful analysis, shaping stories with both depth and independence. I am drawn to its unpredictability—the challenge of pitching, reporting, and writing sharpens my craft. Above all, freelancing empowers me to stay curious, question power, and tell impactful stories on my own terms.

Writing this piece allowed me to combine on-ground developments with historical and strategic context, making the analysis both timely and layered. It highlights how small diplomatic rifts can reshape regional stability, something often overlooked in mainstream coverage. Most importantly, it reflects my commitment to writing stories that inform, provoke thought, and contribute meaningfully to public discourse.
