Sohrab Hossain was born in Bangladesh and has been living in Italy since 2012. Like tens of thousands of Bangladeshi migrants every year, the now-35-year-old journeyed to Italy via Dubai, Egypt and Libya on an irregular route. He describes himself as coming from a "poor" background, who dropped out after class nine, but was motivated by a desire to work. When Hossain arrived back in 2012, he says he paid a Bangladeshi broker around 400,000 Bangladeshi taka for the journey (around 2,833 euros).
