What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job as a journalist was for a blog published by an LGBTQ organization.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have! I love the tactile experience of a typewriter, but depending on the model, the arhythmic sound can become tedious after a few pages.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I will use any search engine and any academic library to find the information I need, and then use whatever software my editor prefers.

I appreciate BlueSky for the way it allows us to share intellectual ideas in a relaxed way.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not work for my high school newspaper, but I did create an art and music fanzine called "Idiosyncrasy" when I was 14 or 15 years old.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A story about the Farsi translation of the French comic "Blue is the Warmest Color" by a poet who went into exile because of its LGBT themes.
What's your favorite drink?
Right now? I think it might be a tie between Li Shan oolong tea from Taiwan and Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label champagne.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Exploring the neighborhoods of the five boroughs of New York City — on foot!
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I have a lifelong love for The New Yorker, but I also enjoy film-specific publications like Cineaste, IndieWire, and Fade to Her.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Arts writers are not here to re-phrase press releases uncritically.
