Delivering the paper in my hometown and working as a college journalist for the Spark, covering theatre and crime.

Why did you become a journalist?

A deep desire to find out the truth about human nature.

No.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Best Lawyers: "The Unkindest Cut" and "Wax On, Wax Off."

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Read as much as you can. Don't be afraid to edit. Accept criticism. Listen to the audience, and always back up your story.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch I ever got was when I wrote for my college paper. I was to take a crime beat and make it funny.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

To write a story about suicide. It took me three months to figure out the right angle, and it made me sad.

What's your favorite drink?

Water

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Somewhere in nature.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The New York Times.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Sometimes you have to write objectively about topics that don't align with your values.
