WTF is AFM? - Magazeum
Arjun Basu: And it just feels like there’s buy-in from the CEO which is really probably the most important form of buy in‚as long as the CEO is on board—then you can start doing things and she seems to really support the effort. Maria Dimitrova: She’s also the one who many years ago, she really saw the potential in Mal as well. So I think there was already that history. But she does support the effort.
The Roads Less Traveled — Magazeum
Arjun Basu: And then there’s the whole issue, I think, between travel and food, the internet has changed everything. And the whole rise of the influencer economy, especially on Instagram, has changed. How has it changed how you approach a topic, if it’s changed at all? Obviously all media has been disrupted. And print media has been changed forever completely, but I see food and travel as especially challenged.
Because Unboxing is Now a Thing
I unboxed the book when I received the package from the printer. Or, rather, I UNBOXED it. That’s what one must do now. I posted a video of the unboxing to social media. I won’t do it here. You can find the videos (there is more than one) with minimal effort if that kind of thing interests you. But what I will do is post a photo of the box itself: The book is very orange. The cover is gorgeous. It is by David Gee. It is like a shot of Vitamin C.
The Things I Learned During The First Season of My Podcast About Magazines
Sometimes I Learn Things It's true. I have a podcast. And you're thinking, just what the world needs, and I wouldn't disagree, because, yes, there are a lot of podcasts out there, too many, let's admit it, but who am I too say there's too much of anything? I'm just a man. With a podcast.
Everything Old Is New Again — Magazeum
A conversation with Bustle chief content officer Emma Rosenblum Emma Rosenblum is a best-selling author and is about to release a new novel. But that’s not why she’s here. As the chief content officer at Bustle Digital Group, overseeing content and strategy for titles like Bustle, Elite Daily, and Nylon, she has witnessed some, if not all, of the massive shifts and changes in the media business. The ups and downs and highs and lows, as it were.
A New Recipe for Success — Print Is Dead. (Long Live Print!)
A conversation with Saveur editor-in-chief and CEO, Kat Craddock Saveur was always a little different from the other food magazines. It was not exactly highbrow, but it did expand the definition of what a food magazine could be. If anything, it was a magazine about culture—centered on food, sure—but also about places, and things, and people. It was a magazine for foodies before the word “foodie” was invented—and then became annoying. It embraced the web and digital.
2023 Cannot Be Dreamt Away
Though you might wish it Years can suck for the writer of the review or for the world at large, or can be good for the writer of the review (but rarely for the world at large) but 2023 seemed to continue a string of crap that started with the pandemic that refuses to leave (it hasn’t gone anywhere just look at the numbers though we’ve normalized the deaths from it to an astonishing degree) and continued on to, oh, the continuing mess in the Ukraine, wars in Burma and Sudan (which, quite...

The Waiting (is the Hardest Part)
Writing is hard. I know, cry me a river. What isn’t hard? Watching TV? Maybe. Ok, maybe watching TV isn’t hard. Watching good TV is another story. Or finding good TV. Or anything good. Especially if you’re searching for something on Netflix. Canadian Netflix. Which is the worst Netflix in the world. But writing, too, is hard. Worse, is the business of writing. That’s really hard. It’s harder still if you’re impatient. The business of writing is slow food in a food court world.

Jones (excerpt) First half, chapter 2
Jones returns to his chair and feels the slight give in the spring, the status implied by the sophistication of the technology. The fact that he knows his underlings have inferior chairs. He likes to think his office chair makes up for the view. He checks his email and alarm spreads over his face, suddenly, comically, a mix of anger and panic, his face made of wax.
Your Friends Are the Reason You Are Boring
Q: I know I should be networking and finding a mentor, but what else do I need from my professional community? You live in a bubble. It’s not your fault. Well, it might be but we’re not here to cast aspersions. However, chances are you live in one. We separate ourselves into these bubbles. It’s how things work. A lot of it is BECAUSE of work. A lot of it is the fact you are working in a highly specialized field.

We spoke to Patrick Mitchell, the founding creative director of Fast Company, and owner of his own design agency.

Up, Up, and Away: The Kid, the Hawk, Rock, Vladi, Pedro, le Grand Orange, Youppi!, the Crazy Business of Baseball, and the Ill-fated but Unforgettable Montreal Expos: Jonah Keri: 9780307361356: Books - Amazon.ca
The nostalgia that exists, that permeates the lives of baseball fans and Montrealers in particular, drips off this book like water from a slate roof during a monsoon. A lot of nostalgia. In Montreal this weekend, the first major league baseball of any sort (albeit of the pre-season variety) and almost 100,000 tickets sold for games between teams that Montrealers are indifferent to at best. For me, at least, reading this book when I did hit me in a lot of ways.
