In the name of national security, the US government has decided to restrict the international deployment of the most advanced artificial intelligence models developed by Anthropic (Mythos 5 and Fable 5) and OpenAI (GPT-5.6). Europe is discovering, to its dismay, that the United States can cut off access to technology whenever it wishes. Alarmist statements are proliferating in Brussels, Paris and Berlin.

Presented at the Vatican on 15 May, Pope Leo XIV's Magnifica Humanitas offers a sombre assessment of artificial intelligence, a technology which, as the Holy Father notes, ‘transforms certain aspects of life and society, with serious repercussions for human dignity.’ For Augustin Landier, professor at HEC, and David Thesmar, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the papal reflection is sometimes on target.

After numerous delays, the European Commission unveiled its Industrial Accelerator Act on 4 March. This regulation, which must now be negotiated by the Council and the European Parliament, for the first time makes the granting of public contracts or subsidies conditional on production taking place within the EU.
