Aussie Singer Songwriter Packs The House in Toronto Touring to support her sixth studio album, Creature of Habit, Courtney Barnett wrapped the first leg in Chicago. The penultimate night brought her to Toronto on May 22. Primarily highlighting songs from the latest album, she also dipped back heavily to her 2015 breakthrough, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ bassist goes back to his roots. Michael Balzary began his musical journey as a boy, becoming fascinated with jazz artists like Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. Through their inspiration, he studied the trumpet and became a young jazz musician. Young Michael wasn’t interested in rock music until meeting fellow Chilli Peppers, Anthony Kiedis and Hillel Slovak. Thus began his transformation into the bass-slapping Flea we’ve all come to know.

While LA’s Cannons are purveyors of mellow, moody dream pop lacquered by Michelle Joy’s smoky vocals, Bob Moses bring sometimes hard but never unfriendly house beats. A comedown and a come-up pairing on some odd playlist co-headlines a tour! What will happen? Cannons came on and showed that they have more than a random scattering of fans in Toronto as the band’s names were called out in cheers.
