Introduction The Polar Radiant Energy in the Far Infrared Experiment (PREFIRE) will fill a major gap in the knowledge of the Arctic energy budget and the role of far-infrared (FIR) radiation in Arctic warming, sea ice loss, ice sheet melt, and sea level rise (L’Ecuyer et al. 2021). PREFIRE will make the first spectrally resolved measurements of FIR radiation, which comprises 60% of Arctic emission.
