Hi, my name is Achilles Frangos, and I’m the editorial page editor for Spectator’s 149th managing board. In my recent inaugural piece, I outline my vision for the editorial page in the context of both campus turmoil and the country’s broader cultural shifts.

Consistency is considered hard to achieve in a distributed cluster. Terms like CAP theorem and eventual consistency are used to describe consistency, whereas relational databases are considered consistent because of ACID transactions. Now, consistency is required in both write and reads. Let’s discuss both: Update consistency — To illustrate this concept, let’s consider an example involving bulb suppliers. One of these suppliers has recently changed their address.

With an increase in data volumes, scaling up becomes costly and, beyond a certain point, impossible. NoSQL has the ability to run a database on a large cluster. Depending on your distribution model, the datastore can handle large quantities of data, whether it’s processing greater read or write operations, or providing more availability or consistency in case of network partition (CAP Theorem). Running over a cluster is a complex endeavor.
