UP adds 29 lakh voters for forthcoming panchayat polls

Arvind Chauhan Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday published the final electoral roll for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections, showing a net addition of 29.01 lakh voters compared with the mother roll of 2025. Although 2.03 crore names were deleted from the mother roll during an extensive voter list purification drive, the addition of 2.32 crore new voters ensured a 2.35% increase in the electorate's size.

UPERC pulls up UPPCL over surcharge, sets June 19 deadline

Arvind Chauhan ​Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has once again sought detailed information from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd regarding the 10% fuel and power purchase adjustment surcharge (FPPAS) levied on electricity consumers for June 2026. According to available details, UPERC had approved a power purchase cost of Rs 4.94 per unit in its tariff order. However, UPPCL reported an actual power purchase cost of about Rs 5.86 per unit for March 2026.

I managed to get hold of first executive officer (XO), the last Captain and other crew members of the INS Gomati, which was decommissioned on May 28, 2022, after 34 years of service. They are all currently based in various parts of India. After speaking on phones for hours with the veteran and officers, two untold stories of INS Gomati were published days before the frigate's decommissioning.
