Abstract Because P. falciparum and P. vivax coexist in the Gedeo Zone, accurate malaria diagnosis is essential for effective case management. Low parasitemia and pfhrp2/3 gene deletions limit the performance of conventional HRP2-based RDTs. The new Bioline Malaria multi-Ag Pf/Pf/Pv RDT, detecting HRP2 and dual pLDH for both species, addresses this limitation.

Abstract Malaria misdiagnosis has important clinical and public health consequences, including inappropriate treatment, missed infections, ongoing transmission, and weakened malaria control efforts. This study aimed to identify light-microscope misdiagnoses that may affect malaria case management and control efforts. A single-gate design study was conducted among 474 cases attending Dilla Zuria Health Facility.

Abstract Developing new drugs and identifying alternative sources of antimicrobial leads in the context of emerging multidrug resistance (MDR) are extremely important. In Ethiopia, medicinal plants are often used by traditional healers owing to their affordability, ease of access, and efficacy. Many plants have well-documented antimicrobial activity and contain bioactive compounds, which are even effective against multidrug-resistant bacteria.
